0% EMI Online Degrees in India (2026): Which Universities Offer No-Cost EMI and What to Ask
Last updated: 30 September 2026
Almost every online university now advertises "0% EMI" or "no-cost EMI". It sounds like a free way to spread a ₹1 to ₹2 lakh fee, but the label hides real differences between offers. This guide lists what we could confirm, explains what to check, and shows where the trade-offs are. EMI availability is one of the six criteria in our ranking of the best universities for online degrees.
What "Zero-Cost EMI" Usually Means
In most cases, zero-cost EMI means you are not charged separate interest on the instalments. The financing is typically provided through a partner lender, and the cost of that financing is absorbed somewhere else: built into the fee, taken from a discount you no longer receive, or offset by other charges. Because the arrangement differs by university and lender, do not assume it is identical everywhere.
What the Universities Advertise
| University | What we found | Confidence |
| GLA University | No-cost EMI from roughly ₹2,600–3,000 a month on the online MBA, plus merit scholarships | From our own research; confirm current terms |
| Amity Online | Zero-cost EMI, for example ₹8,906 a month on a ₹2,25,000 MBA, with a separate 8–12% discount for full upfront payment | Reported by Careers360 and Amity |
| Amrita Online | Zero-cost EMI, for example ₹7,792 a month on a ₹1,76,000 MBA and ₹9,625 a month on a ₹2,20,000 MBA | On Amrita's own pages |
| Chandigarh University | Zero-cost EMI reported, along with an early-bird discount of about 25% on some programmes | Third-party report; confirm on the university site |
| Manipal University Jaipur | Reports conflict: some say zero-cost EMI, others say EMI through partner lenders | Low; ask directly |
| LPU | EMI reported via partner lenders | Medium |
| NMIMS Online | Instalment options only: annual (₹1,05,000 a year) or semester-wise (₹55,000), with a single-payment option at ₹1,96,000 | On Careers360's fee page |
| IGNOU | Semester-wise fee payment, no EMI product | Medium |
These are advertised or reported terms at the time of writing, not guarantees. Monthly figures depend on tenure, fee, specialisation and lender.
Five Questions to Ask Before You Take an EMI
- What is the total amount I will pay? Multiply the monthly EMI by the number of months and compare it with the listed fee. Any difference is a hidden cost. Our EMI calculator can help you test the numbers.
- Is there a processing fee, GST or foreclosure charge? Zero interest does not always mean zero charges.
- Is there a discount for paying upfront? If a university offers, say, 8–12% off for full payment, the EMI route effectively costs more.
- Who is the lender, and what happens if I miss an instalment? The EMI agreement is often with a third-party lender, not the university.
- What happens to the EMI if I withdraw? Ask for the refund policy in writing.
When EMI Makes Sense, and When It Does Not
EMI is useful when spreading the cost keeps you enrolled in a programme you have already verified. It is a poor reason to choose a university. Start with approval and fit: check the programme with our UGC-DEB verifier, then compare payment terms. Frequently Asked Questions
Is 0% EMI really free?
Not always. The financing cost may be included in the fee, offset by a discount you forgo, or partly recovered through processing charges. Ask for the total payable amount in writing.
Which online university offers the lowest monthly EMI?
The monthly figure depends on the total fee and tenure, so cheaper programmes naturally have lower EMIs. GLA advertises one of the lowest starting instalments among private universities. Compare total cost, not just the monthly amount.
Do I need a good credit score for zero-cost EMI?
Partner lenders may apply their own eligibility checks, so approval is not guaranteed for every applicant. Confirm the lender's requirements before you rely on EMI to fund your admission.
